We first met Luis when we were looking for someone to help with the fascia. The fascia (see Pic 1) is one level up. Accessible with a ladder. However, it is a custom "shape". We got several quotes around $6-800 range. And one or two quotes over $1000 because the fascia is a custom shape and a scaffold may be required. Then we found a spare piece in the garage and yet the quotes didn't change much.
Eventually, we contacted Luis. Luis came by and estimated it would take him 3 hours of work. And quoted us his hourly rate of $90. He is a skilled carpenter and a straight talker. None of this tradie talk to talk up the difficulties of the work.
He did the job well. Replaced the rotting piece with the spare piece in the garage. Sealed properly and repainted the corner and the joining piece as well.
The true test is we have asked him to come back and help with different things as well. He even helped us with a particular difficult fix which was a bit tricky and not "expensive" enough to interest other trade folks. He charged us a fair price for these other work. In addition, he had no problem with fixing little things at the same time when he is at Mom's place.
It is rare to deal with a straight shooter who does what he says and delivers. Only thing to watch out is his schedule is quite busy. So need to contact him in advance.
