I didn't know at the time what the cause of my issues were and it frustrated me no end that the Australian experience seems to put the responsibilities onto the individual to do research their symptoms, figure out for themselves what's wrong and then seek a diagnosis for one specific condition at a time - at huge cost.
It was my GP who actually suggested referring me to Fluence Clinic because of positive feedback she'd had from other patients. I checked their Google reviews and they were overwhelmingly positive, which was a stark difference to other psychiatrists I looked at.
The waiting time was relatively short (a few weeks) and the cost of my appointment was also lower than other psychiatrists I looked into (under a thousand for a single assessment and just over a thousand for a combined assessment for both autism and ADHD). The process was neurodivergent friendly - I didn't make or receive a single phone call - and when I got to the assessment, I was listened to, validated and taken seriously.
