I love their cookware. I own a stainless steel Noni Sauteuse for years. So robust, so easy to clean. Only Aussie would manufacturer something cool like this.
Here are some reasons why it is special:
1) Asthetic: it is made of a single sheet of metal (in my case stainless steel). Does not trap food nor gather burnt mark. Does not rust. Stays pretty!
2) Ease of Cleaning: No rivets, no screws to have to clean around. The stainless steel ones can go into dishwasher. The website taught me to use "Bar Keeper's Friend" which is very effective!
3) Tough: it has no coating, so does not peel like Teflon coated cookware. I am not the most careful cook but I can assure you my stainless steel chopsticks are more afraid of my Sauteuse than the other way around. (It actually cause a dent once)
4) Cooks Fast: because it is well made, so heats up very fast. Great for someone who is an inefficient cook.
5) Versatile: cooks on any surface (including induction) and can go straight into oven.
6) Multi-generation warranty: I never have to test it, but I believe it. The floor need to be afraid if I accidentally drop it.
Only Aussie would manufacturer something like this. How can a company be financially sustainable if its product never breaks? It is almost counter-instuitive!
Of course there are some downsides:
1) Price: it is more expensive. But consider normal Teflon cookware needs to be replaced around once a year, it is cheaper in the long run
2) Weight: it is a little heavy (according to my mother-in-law). But they have introduced a lighter version these days, called "Lightning". I wish I have tried it.
3) Range: the cookware are made in batches so sometimes you have to wait for your favourite style to come into stock
Regarding the first issue, "price", there is a solution. Just buy it when there is a sale, like this week. And if you are lucky to bring it overseas within 2 months you get 10% GST back via TRS. (Does not work for pans with a handle as you cannot bring those on board as carry-on).
These days it is so hard to find quality Aussie-made gift for loved ones overseas. You can buy Solidteknics in physical shops too, like Victoria's basement. But I like to check out the discounts, which one only gets by being on the mailing list.
Apparently you can buy it in USA and UK, too. Apparently the USA made ones has a USA shaped opening, which I think would look cool, too!
Buy one and you will understand why there is a Facebook community about it.
Happy cooking!
