I spent a stupid amount of time researching solar before committing to anything. Forums, Reddit threads, review sites, energy calculators, YouTube videos, Whirlpool arguments at 1am. The whole descent into madness.
What ultimately stood out about HCB Solar was that they never once felt like salespeople.
Their consultant came out to our place and sat with us for close to an hour, walking through the system design, shading considerations, roof orientation, export assumptions, microinverters, warranties, retailer implications, the whole thing. By the end of the conversation we basically felt like subject matter experts ourselves. At one point they even directed us toward SolarQuotes, which ironically probably saved us money. That level of transparency immediately built trust for me.
We ended up with a 5.74kW system using SunPower panels and Enphase microinverters. The install process itself was excellent. Professional, tidy, clearly experienced tradespeople. No cowboy energy whatsoever.
The other thing that gave me confidence is that these guys are genuinely local. They’ve been around forever in Newcastle terms. A lot of solar companies appear during boom cycles, disappear three years later, and suddenly your “25-year warranty” becomes theoretical. HCB never felt like that. They felt like the kind of business that actually intends to answer the phone in ten years.
What I particularly like is that they remotely monitor systems for faults. If something goes wrong, they already know about it before most customers would. That’s operational maturity, not just installation capability.
They probably aren’t the absolute cheapest quote you’ll receive. But after going through this process myself, I honestly think chasing the cheapest solar installer is insane behaviour. You’re literally bolting electrical infrastructure onto your roof for decades.
I recommended HCB to my Dad afterwards. He lives alone and effectively doesn’t pay electricity bills anymore.
That says enough.
