Biggie Smalls Design Studio

I’ve worked with Daniel Massey and Nick Bragg from Biggie Smalls across a couple of projects now, including one through an NFP I was involved with at the time, and I genuinely think they’re one of the best-value creative studios operating in Australia.

The simplest way I can describe Biggie is this: it’s basically a small collective of absolute design weapons who escaped big agencies and consultancies to build something smarter.

You get senior-level strategic and creative thinking without the usual layers of theatre, inflated process, account-management bureaucracy and six-figure invoices attached to it.

One of the projects we worked on with them came in under $5k. From experience dealing with larger agency environments over the years, I honestly believe comparable work could easily have drifted toward the $80-100k territory once all the workshops, strategy decks, stakeholder alignment sessions and “transformation narratives” started multiplying.

What I particularly like about Biggie is that they balance creativity with operational intelligence. A lot of studios can make things look beautiful. Far fewer understand positioning, behavioural psychology, systems thinking, audience perception and commercial reality simultaneously.

These guys do.

They also happen to be incredibly easy humans to work with. No ego. No weird creative preciousness. No trying to dominate the room to prove they’re the smartest people there. Just thoughtful, curious, highly capable operators who clearly love what they do.

You can also immediately see the quality by looking through their body of work. They’ve won a stack of design awards for a reason.

If you’re building a new product, refreshing a brand, launching something ambitious, or trying to make your organisation actually look credible in a crowded market, I would absolutely recommend speaking with them.

Particularly if you want top-tier agency thinking without setting fire to your budget.
