Life is about serendipity and taking your chances.
When I was in uni, like many uni students, I had no idea what careers I wanted to pursue.
One day, decades ago, when I was browsing in a book shop, by chance I picked up this book Market Wizards, I was hooked. After reading that book, I decided to pursue a career in trading. I did not become a trader but I ended doing something similar. I ended up pursuing a career as an equity investor.
When I was young, I typically read one book in one or two weeks.
These days, quant finance is all the rage. Passive investing/ETF is winning over active funds management. Is stock picking a dying trade/craft/art ?
Personally, I still believe fundamental stock picking works. To build wealth, one needs to focus on the long term.
If you want to better understand this "dying" trade/craft of stock picking, here is my book list for anyone who wants to learn about investing in stocks.
Market Wizards & New Market Wizards by Jack Schwager. Note there are other Market Wizards books by the author but the originals are much better than the subsequent ones.
The Money Masters + The New Money Masters, Money Masters of Our Time by John Train.
The Midas Touch by John Train.
One Up on Wall Street + Beating the Street by Peter Lynch.
How to Make Money in Stocks by William O'Neil. I really like its CANSLIM framework.
Confessions of a Stockbroker by Andrew Lanyi.
Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefevre.
Secrets For Profiting in Bull and Bear Markets by Stan Weinstein.
The Innovator's Dilemma by Clayton Christensen.
Liars Poker by Michael Lewis.
