NICE vegan ramen in Sydney - Towzen

It amazes me how vary ramen can be. When I think of ramen, I just think of the thick creamy broth ramen from Gumshara.

More recently, largely due to the Ippudo day promotion, I started trying different vegetarian ramens. So far, my favorite vegetarian ramen has been Nirvana from Ippudo.

Today, we went to Towzen in the Sydney CBD in Town Hall. The original Towzen first open its door in Kyoto in 2004. Its specialty is vegan ramen. Towzen Sydney is its first out post in Australia.

We had the truffle ramen, kyoto soymylk ramen, mushroom shoyu ramen, and si chuan tan tan mem (spicy).

If I were to rank our 4 ramens, the order would be => truffle > soymylk, mushroom, and si chuan.

Amazing the kind of flavors that Towzen has developed with its different soups, relying on vegan only ingredients.

Honestly, the 4 ramens were tasty and delicious. But unlike your typical tonkotsu ramen, hearty is probably not the right word here.... A word that is more appropriate in this case is delicate. Presentation is top notch. I can see how each ramen (and its toppings) are painstakingly assembled to a specific presentation.

A must try is the truffle ramen. It stands out for its "truffleness". Make no mistake, it is yummy and memorable if you like truffle. I also like the soymylk broth.

The ambience is above average. More like a cute little restaurant than a ramen place. Just a very nice surrounding (and nice building too).

My only beef is the price point. The cheapest ramen costs $29 (mushroom and soymylk). The truffle ramen costs $36. Another quirk is it doesn't offer extra noodle/kaedama. Haha I figured given how expensive each ramen is, may as well get extra noodles to extend the experience. But No :(

In this sense, it reminds me of Mensho Ramen. It is nice but once is enough. Hard to go back again and again.

Reservation can be done online. It will extend a "hold" on the credit card to hold the reservation. Think I read somewhere it has a minimum spend of $30/person. Ha... It should not be a problem.

Bottom line is, if you are looking for something nice/delicate and different, check out Towzen. At least go there once and try something different. You won't be disappointed by the ramen. Is it value for money ? It depends.
