DIY swimming pool pebblecrete patch/repair - Pebblekits

Our swimming pool has a dark patch where the pebblecrete has peeled off where one can see the concrete. See Pic 1.

Found Pebblekits online and decided to have a go. To be honest, hard to know what tradesman to ask to fix the patch.

Cost us around $137 for the kit. The kit comes in 3 sizes (30cm x 30cm, 50cm x 50cm, 100cm x 100cm). Prices range from $137 to $207 and different matching pebblecrete looks. Upon online check out, delivery was free.

The buying process was easy. Took a picture of the pool and asked what would be the right color. Kylie wrote back quickly and we placed the order online. Delivery was quick (from QLD). Took like 3 days from QLD to NSW.

The kit came in this big sealed bucket. See Pic 3. One thing was the bucket was a real pain to open. So be prepared to pry the lid off. The bucket had the pebblecrete, a trowel, and a water spray gun/hose nozzle (see Pic 5), and the instruction. One can certainly quibble if value for money (for a bucket of pebblecrete and 2 tools).... BUT I guess try to find someone to do the job... The time and effort may not be worth it.

Application was easy enough. If you have grouted something before, you know what the it entails. The whole application process was quick and simple. Initially, be judicious with water in mixing initially. One thing though. Instruction specifies 7mm depth for the pebblecrete to stick. Our "dark patch" was really shallow (just depth of the pebblecrete really). So far so good... After 3 days, the new "pebblecrete" is still intact.

See Pic 1 and 2 for the before and after pics. Looks OK but a bit too white with the finish. To be honest, I may have stuffed up. I did not wash away enough of the grout soon after. Because the area did not have the 7mm depth, I was reluctant to wash away too much of the grout to expose the pebblecrete completely. Still, it will blend in well enough once water level is filled back up.

If you have similar problem with your pebblecrete pool, Pebblekit is not a bad DIY solution.
