If you’re looking for a likeable and fluffy K-drama, A Bona Fide Killer is not a bad choice.
The two main leads are Kong Hyo-jin (The Master's Sun) and Jung Joon-won (Resident Playbook).
The storyline is predictable enough. Kong plays a mum on maternity leave from her secret day job as an assassin, known as Kingfisher, for a vigilante group that hunts down criminals who have slipped through the cracks of the legal system. Jung plays her husband, whose day job is as a reporter. He has covered Kingfisher extensively and is a fan of hers. Obviously, he has been completely in the dark about his wife's real job.
The story develops as you would expect. Will he eventually discover her true identity?
It's more of a rom-com than an action thriller, but it's enjoyable. There are two other romantic storylines (the sister-in-law and her best friend, plus two of Kong's work colleagues). Both are cute and, thankfully, not cringeworthy.
I also enjoyed watching the relationship between Kong and her mother-in-law evolve as the story unfolds.
Before you ask, the ending is happily ever after.
A Bona Fide Killer has 14 episodes, which is relatively long compared to other K-dramas these days. However, the drama never feels slow. Its rating on AsianWiki is 94%, while the domestic ratings climbed from 7% to 10% over the course of its run.
In summary, A Bona Fide Killer is worth a watch if you're looking for a relaxing, feel-good story.
