At first, I thought it would be no different than getting documents certified by JP. Boy...Was I wrong. I called around and got quoted as much as $2-300 for each document (to notarize as original copy). Just to be clear, only needed to notarize as original copy and nothing additional on top (like apostille). With our documents, some quotes came to $5-600.
I called around even more. Eventually, found Somerville Legal.
Our office was in Wynyard. Made appointment for the same day in the afternoon. Caught the train to North Sydney. Sommerville's office was like 2 minutes walk from North Sydney station.
I was surprised to have Mr Sommerville personally notarized the documents as original copy. Mr Sommerville is the managing partner of the law firm. He came across as a gentlemanly old school solicitor. He was efficient, professional and thorough.
We saved as much as half the price of some previous quotes.
Subsequently, the notarized documents were accepted by the 2 US banks.
For writing up this recommendation, I looked up its website in April 2026... This is its latest fee schedule. Please benchmark with other notary public in Sydney.
The fees for notarising documents at our office are $120 for one document and $30 per document for any additional documents, plus GST. The fee for Apostille is $220 plus GST, and government fees of $102 per document.

That is cheap. I had a document done years ago and it was twice that easy.
