Talk about prices going up.... The other day I looked up the broadband NBN bill.. It has gone up from around $60 to $90 per month... Just creeping up quietly with the direct debit set up.
But then it is the same play with other utility bills... They just take existing customers for granted and push prices up every year.
The whole process was pretty straight forward. We have been with TPG for years.
I just called them up and asked what can they do ? After the first call centre contact, the call was passed to another team.
The first question the other TPG person asked was did I look at other plan ? I said no. Note this turned out to be important. Keep this in mind.
TPG went through the same spill about appreciate your loyalty so we could offer you $5 off for 6 months then it would go back to the normal price.
I said try harder.... Then it became $74 for 6 months... And another push... Became $20 off for a year then go back to normal price.
While on the phone, I just quickly scanned what was available elsewhere... Found Dodo with $58 for 6 months then $88. See Pic 1.
Again.. Pushed TPG to match... Final offer was $58 for 12 months and the reverting to normal.
Overall, the experience was not too bad. The call took like 5-10 mins. TPG was trying to keep the business and was flexible about it. Call centre staff was pleasant to deal with.
So if looking for some savings from your monthly outgoing, it really doesn't hurt to try to call your broadband supplier as well and see what they can do. Remember NBN performs the same for everyone.....
