But in the past week, something changed. IB now offers access to Taiwan, Korea, and Brazil.
Previously, these markets were impossible for retail investors in Australia to access.
Why is this a big deal ? The world is going crazy on AI. Taiwan and Korea are key players in the AI supply chain. Think TSMC, Samsung, and Hynix. Samsung and Hynix are trading at discount to Micron (despite being stronger than Micron).
I am personally intrigued by the potential of Brazil. Real interest rate in Brazil is crazily high (9 to 10%). The rate cycle is turning in Brazil. Plus potential catalyst for stocks in Brazil (election in 2H would be positive for stocks if Lula loses).
Also I have had a look at the commission for these markets. Look reasonable actually. However, I saw some comments on X.com that the spread/commission is much higher in reality (maybe due to FX or other fees).
Nevertheless, it is exciting that retail investors can finally access these markets in Australia.
