My partner & I had three fantastic two weeks stays in Tasmania a while back. We were always there in the summer months. So one time we ventured to King Solomons Cave in Mole Creek Karts National Park. I had only ever been underground in sapphire mines in Central Qld before so this experience just blew me away!
Having come in from the summer heat the Mine was quite cold. The cave features lavish colours and formations, with sparkling calcite decorating the chambers. Absolutely magnificent!
For myself, this was a place which would remain with me always - being below the earth in such magnificent surroundings was truly inspiring! Almost eerie in some ways!
After being on the guided tour I was absolutely freezing! We ventured a little way down the road from the cave & came across a small cafe - warmed up on hot soup etc - looks like that cafe is now closed as I cannot locate same. Was the best hot soup I had ever had. All in all a wonderful couple of very memorable hours.
Tickets for the King Solomons Cave and the two tours at Marakoopa Cave are available from the central office at 330 Mayberry Road, Mayberry about 600 metres before the entrance to Marakoopa Cave. Eftpos, Visa, Mastercard and cash are accepted.
